Winners of MIRA TELECOM “Student – Programming the future” scholarships for excellence, motivated to continue the research projects

Mira Telecom StudentiThe winners of Mira Telecom “Student – Programming the future” scholarships for excellence, were delighted with the results of the internship program that they attended and will continue to work over the summer holidays at the project "NanoProgramming - controlling a system for atomic and nanoscale manipulation", run under the coordination of the company’s specialists and of Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Marius Enăchescu, CSSNT General Manager. The students would like to maintain the team complete, to be able to implement the project together and are also planning to participate to the future challenges launched by MIRA TELECOM in this area. “At the beginning I was a little scared by one of the participants who was asking many questions, but in time I realized that the team work in this project was a very pleasant experience and a real challenge. I think people work best in couples and my collaboration with Andrei has confirmed it. The work in this very complex project was not stressful at all from my perspective, I did everything out of pleasure and was motivated by the result I knew we were going to reach.“ said Paul Urziceanu, student of the Polytechnic University. Another winner of the scholarships for excellence, Andrei Radu, thinks that the project’s success is also due to the way in which the team members managed to complete each other.”It was a team that included people who were very good in different areas, who managed to complete each other and this has significantly contributed to the project’s success.” “Although we did not know each other at the beginning I feel now that I know my team mates very well and the work within this project, but also the entertainment activities, such as the basketball game we played together, has helped us consolidate as a team. I liked the confidence granted by our teacher by offering us the lab key and allowing us unrestricted access to the resources, confidence that I felt all through the project and I also appreciated the visits of MIRA specialists involved in the project, as well as their coordination.” added Daniel Tomescu, one of the participants in the project, who, although is not among the scholarship winners is determined to stay in the team and continue the project with the other colleagues. Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Marius Enăchescu, CSSNT General Director was also pleasantly surprised with the way the participants worked in the internship program and he wishes the team remains complete after the project delivery, as well. “I am glad to see that they really are a team. Both MIRA and I will try to keep them as a team, even if the number of scholarships did not equal the number of participants. I want to see the system working perfectly, unitary and the team members to be able to unblock or debug the system if necessary. We hope that we will be able to continue doing some other things with MIRA TELECOM, because they have smart people there who really understand the richness of being with one foot in the business and the other foot in a university. This is a fantastic richness on both sides.” At the end of the internship program, organized in collaboration with Center for Surface Science and Nanotechnology of Bucharest Polytechnic University, MIRA TELECOM designated three winners of the scholarships for excellence worth 2,000 Euro each, for the university year 2012 – 2013. The winners were Paul Urziceanu, Andrei Radu and Monica Dragan, all students of the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Science, within Bucharest Polytechnic University. “Everything happened naturally all through the project. Only the interested people were selected and those really willing to perform and passionate with research remained. The students were given a deadline for the report delivery and want to work during summer to finish the project. Right now we are very satisfied with the development of the project.” said Silviu Ciobanu – R&D Manager MIRA TELECOM. The internship program was a pilot project launched by MIRA TELECOM this year, but considering the participants level of involvement, the program will continue with a new research project in 2013. MIRA TELECOM – a company with 100% Romanian private capital- with 14 years of experience on the Romanian and international market, started its activity in October 1998, with radio-communication equipment distribution. Service diversification has represented the basic principle in the company’s evolution. MIRA TELECOM provides today complete security, IT and telecom services, backed by an efficient and operative integrated service, which brings added value to the customers’ operations. MIRA TELECOM contributes to the preservation and restoration of patrimony objects at international level

Mira Telecom Eureka

MIRA TELECOM has started a new international research and development project with public funding and co-financing provided by partners. The project aims to improve the damage degree assessment and the restoration of the historical and patrimony objects. The company is main partner with leader role and co-financer within the project “Eureka 5837 ADAS (Automatic Damage Assessment System)”, which targets the design of an automated damage assessment system for cultural heritage leather and parchments. Romania and Spain are the two European countries partners in this project.
The total value of the project is 780,000 Euro, of which 32.75% represents the share of the partners’ co-financing. MIRA TELECOM is the only Romanian partner which will provide financial contribution to the project implementation. The project will be implemented over 36 months and will end in March 2015.
The collagen structure of parchments or leathers is degraded under the influence of environmental factors: temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pollutants, light, and storage conditions. European museums, religious places of worship and State Archives preserve a large number of documents, books and objects partially made by leather and parchment dated from the 4th to the 20th century.
The project aims to create an innovative software, which will allow the development of new non- destructive or micro- destructive techniques for the damage assessment of different historical collagen- based materials. These materials are extremely in-homogeneous, which triggers an even more challenging research process. Noninvasive investigation usually describes damage, but does not explain the type of deterioration. Micro-invasive methods ensure both the qualitative and quantitative characterization and thus ranking of damage needed to decide how an object should be preserved and restored.
The result of the project will consist in the development of techniques which will contribute to a faster and more accurate assessment of the patrimony objects and will allow their optimum restoration. The new software will improve and accelerate the shrinking temperature estimation.
“Cultural heritage transmitted through books and objects with historical value is very important for each people. As valuable as these objects are, as difficult it is to preserve them in good shape, considering that there is no assessment system at the moment, able to determine accurately the damage level of the cultural heritage leather and parchments.  MIRA TELECOM decided to get involved in the project “Eureka 5837 ADAS” to ensure the necessary support to the institutions facing this problem, by generating an innovative and efficient solution.” said Stelian Ilie, MIRA TELECOM president.
The determination of main parameters, which damage parchment and leather objects in Romania and Spain, the design of the automated system for shrinking temperature evaluation and the validation of the new assisted method for the automated damage assessment system are among the most important objectives of the project.
MIRA TELECOM is collaborating with another three local scientific partners in this project: The Leather and Footwear Institute (ICPI) - Branch of Research Leather Footwear Institute, Bucharest; Polytechnic University of Bucharest / Applied Informatics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (LIA) and the National Museum of Romanian History. As main partner MIRA TELECOM is coordinating the research and technical activity of all the partners.

MIRA TELECOM gets involved in environmental projects

Mira Telecom life+
Last year six environmental projects from Romania were selected for partial financing through the EU Life+ program, policy and environmental governance. Elsys is one of them and seeks the digitization of monitoring the shipments of waste.
The Ministry of Environment and Forests conducted the project, which is also the coordinating beneficiary. MIRA TELECOM is an associated beneficiary and responsible with technical implementation.
Elsys aims to establish an electronic system for exchanging data on shipments of waste. By replacing the paper based processing of applications with an electronic system destined to the waste operators and authorities from Romania and neighboring countries will greatly reduce the administrative burden and will accelerate the exchange of information between operators of waste and state authorities.
With a total budget of 1.2 mil. Euro, of which almost half are EU funding, Elsys was launched in late October 2011 and the completion date is September 30, 2014.
The main objectives of Elsys implementation refers to tracking waste shipments in real time, providing the technical support of the authorities involved, creating a database and generating the annual reports for the EU, EUROSTAT and the Basel Convention Secretariat. Finally, it should be noted that the project implementation would result in environmental protection by improving control methods to reduce illegal waste shipments.
In the first Elsys workshop, which was attended the representatives of MIRA TELECOM Company, the main lines of action and activities that will lead to achieving those objectives were established. MIRA TELECOM’s contribution will be substantial in the most important activities, such as development of software platform for the access and storage of waste transfers, digital recording of notifications, electronic signature or other system security information, networking the stakeholders. Together with coordinating beneficiary, MIRA TELECOM, as associated beneficiary, has clarified a number of issues raised by participants. The overall conclusion was that Elsys intends to improve the existing system and to ensure support to authorities and economic operators.
“We consider the involvement of MIRA TELECOM in the Elsys project very important to us, in two respects. The first refers to the challenge of developing the software platform for a project on the size and importance of Elsys. It represents a considerable investment in research and a key area for our business. This year we will finalize the construction of our own research center, an approach which has already proved successful, MIRA TELECOM being co-opted in several prestigious consortiums of EU companies, on research projects in the field of security and IT&C.
Another issue, equally important, is the priority we attach to the company’s involvement in environmental projects. We will follow next year with great interest the call for Life+ projects and we consider including our own initiatives in this direction.” said Stelian Ilie – President of MIRA TELECOM.
On medium and long term, the expected benefits aim to improve the quality of reported data, to increase by approximately 70% the detection of illegal transfers or decrease by up to 20% of the time spent processing documents, a pilot project with five recovery facilities and five border-crossing points connected to the system, among other things.
Beside the two beneficiaries, several other are involved in the project -National Environmental Protection Agency, National Customs Authority  as well as a series of economic operators: exporters, importers, brokers, waste generators, transporters, units of waste recovery, etc.
MIRA TELECOM – company with 100% Romanian private capital  – with 14 years of experience on the Romanian and international market, has started activity in October 1998, with distribution of radiocommunication equipments. Diversification of services has represented a basic principle in the evolution of the company, today MIRA TELECOM providing complete solution of security, IT and telecom, backed by an effective and operative integrated service that brings added value to the customers operations.
Life+ policy and environmental governance, part of the EU financial program Life, promotes pilot projects that contribute to the development of policies, technologies, methods and inovative instruments. Most of the funds have been allocated for projects targeting waste and natural resources. The Commission launches every year a request for proposals for Life+ projects.
